When the developers of verinice started the new project, they were looking for a catchy short project name. They chose "veo" - Spanish for "I see". When we saw the new verinice during the prototype presentation, we decided to use this name to distinguish the previous verinice software and the new approach as "verinice.veo".
verinice – the Next Generation
verinice is a ready-to-use tool for Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) management that enables a quick start in information security, data protection, and emergency management. The supported domains for ISMS, DSMS, and BCMS are also available in the new generation on a modern platform:
- Data Protection under the GDPR
- NIS2 Directive
- BSI IT-Grundschutz
- ISO 27001
- TISAX according to VDA-ISA
- BCM according to BSI Standard 200-4 /
ISO 22301 (ETA: 2026)
verinice is suitable for integrated management systems: It is flexibly customizable and expandable, scalable, and high-performing—and is also the only tool of its kind with the BSI Basic Protection license.
The new verinice is offered by SerNet as a cloud solution – including a 30-day evaluation version. For operation in a data center, use verinice.onprem.
verinice.veo is the new platform on which the next generation of verinice is based: fully web-based and built on modern technology. verinice is open-source software whose source code is fully published by SerNet, designed to support digital sovereignty and based on open standards .

The content from catalogs, compendia and standards will soon be available for verinice.veo. They are continuously optimized for use in verinice by the verinice team, which has many years of expertise in information security, data protection and emergency management. With verinice.veo, everything is preinstalled on the server and can often be used free of charge – unless third parties charge license fees.
Is verinice.veo also released under an open-source license?
The new generation continues the tradition started by the first verinice program in 2006 and is still published under the A-GPL open source license. The source code is freely available on GitHub. The veo API is also transparently documented there
This philosophy is also supported by constant contact with users. It is always possible to exchange ideas with an interested community in the verinice forum or to contact the development team.
Is it possible to migrate to the new verinice generation?
With the release of the new verinice.veo, the verinice team will offer the option to migrate to the new verinice generation in 2026. More information can be found at “Migration v2v”.

Until when will verinice.Client and verinice.PRO be supported?
Over 30,000 customers have installed and used the verinice client as a standalone program so far. This will continue to be possible until the end of 2027. The same applies to the existing verinice.PRO application server, which will also be supported until the end of 2027.
