verinice – the Next Generation

verinice.veo is the new verinice platform on which the next generation of tools for managing governance, risk and compliance (GRC) is based: fully browser-based and realized on modern technology. verinice is an open source software from SerNet with a complete published source code, standing for digital sovereignty and open standards.  

verinice enables a quick start with ready-to-use solutions for information security, data protection and emergency management. The application domains for ISMS, DSMS and BCMS supported by verinice so far will continue to be available in the future:

  • Data protection according to DSGVO
  • NIS-2 guideline
  • BSI IT-Grundschutz
  • ISO 27001
  • TISAX according to VDA-ISA
  • BCM according to BSI standard 200-4 / 
    ISO 22301

verinice is suitable for integrated management systems: it is flexibly adaptable and extensible, scalable and highly performant – and also the only tool of its kind with the BSI IT-Grundschutz license.

The content from catalogs, compendia and standards will soon be available for verinice.veo. They are continuously optimized for use in verinice by the verinice team, which has many years of expertise in information security, data protection and emergency management. With verinice.veo, everything is preinstalled on the server and can often be used free of charge – unless third parties charge license fees.

When the developers of verinice started the new project, they were looking for a catchy short project name. They chose "veo" - Spanish for "I see". When we saw the new verinice during the prototype presentation, we decided to use this name to distinguish the previous verinice software and the new approach as "verinice.veo".

The new generation continues the tradition started by the first verinice program in 2006 and is still published under the A-GPL open source license. The source code is freely available on GitHub. The veo API is also transparently documented there

This philosophy is also supported by constant contact with users. It is always possible to exchange ideas with an interested community in the verinice forum or to contact the development team. 

Over 30,000 customers have installed and used the verinice client as a standalone program so far. This will continue to be possible until the end of 2027. The same applies to the existing verinice.PRO application server, which will also be supported until the end of 2027.  

With the release of the new verinice.veo, the verinice team is also offering the option to migrate to the new verinice generation. More information can be found at “Migration v2v”.
